Only Some of Us Will Listen

Truth can be spoken to us from some of the most interesting places. Watch this clip from the movie The Santa Clause.

“Seeing isn’t believing. Believing is seeing.” That is a pretty good definition of faith coming from the script of a family Christmas movie.

Here is another movie clip that speaks to us:

“Only some of us will listen.”

In his book The Gifts of the Jews, Thomas Cahill proposes that God possibly spoke to many people in the Sumerian culture of Ur. What made Abram different was that he listened – and obeyed. “So Abram went, as the LORD had told him,” Calhill remarks, is one of the most pivotal statements in history.

Could it be that God is speaking to many of us who call ourselves “Christ-followers,” asking us to engage our communities or the communities he will send us to for the kingdom, but only some of us will listen?

Are you listening?

You won’t miss it. Jesus tells us that his people hear and know his voice, like sheep can discern the voice of their shepherd from the other voices around them.

Will you go?

Abram did, and God built on that obedience to bless us, and the whole world, in Jesus.
